Publishing lets anyone visit your website using its web address. You can start with a free Wepp address. Connecting an address you already own is optional.

Put your website online

Your free web address

The address your-name.wepp.app is included. Your chosen name needs at least three characters. You do not need to buy a domain or change any settings at another provider. If this address is all you need, you are done!

Use your own web address

A domain is your own internet address, such as example.com. You need to own this address and be able to sign in to the company where you manage it — your domain provider. Custom domains require the Pro plan or higher; on the free plan, Wepp shows an upgrade hint here.

You will use two tabs: Wepp shows the values to copy. You save them at your domain provider. These settings are called DNS records. They tell the internet where to find your website.

Enter the CNAME record

This connects www.example.com to your Wepp website. Choose “Add record” or “Create DNS record” at your provider, then select CNAME as the type. Fill in the fields below and save.

For the name: most providers expect just www and add .example.com automatically. If yours asks for the full address, enter www.example.com. Check that the result is not www.example.com.example.com.

For the target: copy “Value / Target” from Wepp using the copy button. Use your own Wepp address, not the example above. Do not add https:// or a slash. If you connect an address such as shop.example.com, use shop instead of www for the name.

Also work without www: the A record

Would you like visitors to reach your site when they type example.com without www? In Wepp, enable “Also make reachable without "www"”. Visitors will then be sent to www.example.com. This option appears when your saved domain starts with www..

What does @ mean? It stands for your address without www — here, example.com. Depending on the provider, enter @, leave the name empty or enter the full address without www. Follow the hint next to that field. The A record belongs to this address, not to www.

Use only the IP address currently shown in Wepp. If there is already an A record for this address, edit it instead of adding another. If you see several A records or an AAAA record for that same address, ask your provider which old website entries need replacing. You do not need to set up a separate URL forwarding service at your provider.

Check whether it works

1. Save your changes at the domain provider.
2. Return to Wepp and click “Check” below your custom domain. If the redirect is enabled, check that section too.
3. Wait for confirmation. While automatic checks are active, Wepp keeps checking for you. Changes often take a few minutes; allow up to 24 hours.
4. Open your own address with www. If you enabled the redirect, also try the address without www.

If Wepp says the secure connection is still being set up, wait a little longer. Wepp sets up HTTPS — the secure connection to your website — automatically.

If you get stuck

• Cannot find DNS settings? Search your provider’s help for “DNS record” or “CNAME”. For example: IONOS instructions for a CNAME record.
• Wepp cannot find the record? Check the name and target for typos. Use the values from your own Wepp settings, then save and check again.
• Only the address with www works? Check that the redirect is on in Wepp and that the A record for the address without www uses the IP shown there.
• Still seeing the old website? Try a private browser window. If it still does not work after 24 hours, ask your provider to check the records.

Take your website offline

As the owner, you can take the website offline in the publishing settings. Your content stays in Wepp, and you can publish again later. If you use your own domain, check its connection and any redirect again after republishing.
